There are some sections that will be analyzed here, such as genre, year of production, general theme, main characters, plot, setting of time, setting of place, economy sector in the movie, and education sector in the movie.
In
addition, there are some reasons why I choose The Soloist and Alangkah
Lucunya (Negeri Ini) to be analyzed. Firstly, both of them were released in
near year. The Soloist was released
in 2008 while Alangkah Lucunya (Negeri
Ini) was released in 2010. Thus, the global condition that happened when
both of the movies released is the same. Secondly, both of them are tell the
viewers about social reality that happened in the US and Indonesia. So, we can
compare and contrast it easily. At last, we can compare and compare these
movies based on some sectors that appear in both of the movies, such as
economy, education, and religion sector.
Genre
The
genre of The Soloist and Alangkah Lucunya (Negeri Ini) are
different. The genre of The Soloist
is based on true story drama while the genre of Alangkah Lucunya (Negeri Ini) is satire comedy drama. Although they
have different genre, but they show the same general theme in the movies.
Year of released
As
I said in the beginning, both of the movies are released in near year. The Soloist was released in 2008 while Alangkah Lucunya (Negeri Ini) was
released in 2010. Thus, the global condition that happened when both of the
movies released is the same.
General Theme
The Soloist
and Alangkah Lucunya (Negeri Ini) are
movies that have same general theme, which is social reality that happened
around us. The directors of both movies can make the viewers realize that even
the street life can give us some inspirations.
Main Characters
The
main characters in these movies that are Steve Lopez in The Soloist and Muluk in Alangkah
Lucunya (Negeri Ini) are educated people. In both of the movies, we can see
exactly whether the character is educated or uneducated.
Plot
The
plot of these movies is the same. Both of the movies did not run as a
flashback, but they run as a daily life.
Setting of Time
We
can see the setting of time of The
Soloist exactly on 2005, but we cannot see the setting time of Alangkah Lucunya (Negeri Ini) exactly in
what year. But, it seems that Alangkah
Lucunya (Negeri Ini) did not take a setting of time of past because the
situation that appear in the movie show that it was happened in a modern era
like when the movie was released.
Setting of Place
Most
of the setting of place that appears in both The Soloist and Alangkah
Lucunya (Negeri Ini) is in the street. It seems that it is because these
movies are telling the viewers about social reality that happened in the
street.
Economy Sector in the
Movie
The
economy sector that appears in these movies is the same. They show about the
life of low economy people that struggle to survive in big cities.
Education Sector in the
Movie
As
I said on the main character analysis that we can guess and see exactly who is
the educated people and who is the uneducated people. Besides, these movies
tell us that people at that time think that educated people must have a great
job and if it is not, they will stamped as well as uneducated people. The point
that distinguish these movies is in The
Soloist, the reason why the educated character did not get any job is he
suffered an illness while the reason why the educated character hardly get a
job in Alangkah Lucunya (Negeri Ini)
is the work chance that available in the city where he lives is very limited
and so hard to catch because so many people are finding a job instead of making
a new job at that time.
